Dermal Viral Infections
Herpes Labialis (Facial Herpes = Cold Sores)

An estimated 80% of the population has been exposed to Herpes Simplex Viruses Type 1 (HSV 1) as attested by the presence of antibodies to the virus. Of these individuals, 30% suffer from recurrences known as cold sores or fever blisters. Most remedies sold for these episodes are palliative, treating the symptoms but not the cause. Currently the antiviral products used to fight these outbreaks are marginally effective. There is no product currently available that effectively fights the virus and significantly reduces the course of an episode.

Redox Pharmaceutical Corporation’s Doxovir-L™ has proven to be effective against Herpes Simplex 1 (HSV 1). Phase IB Clinical Trials on Herpes Labialis (cold sores) intended as initial safety and proof of concept studies have been successfully completed. These studies have given initial evidence of safety for dermal application and efficacy in the treatment of cold sores. Phase II Clinical Trial on Herpes Labialis has been approved and is now being performed.
